Ni Wakati

Michael Wanguhu is at it again.  He has hit on a great concept and is coming out with a great movie.  The movie, ‘Ni Wakati’, shows how the revolutionary youth of Africa, utilizing Hip-hop have turned the Ghetto’s into breeding ground of explosive talent in the art’s and the political sphere.

I love the fact that he ties the past and the present to lead a road to the future.  WithM1 from Dead Prez and Umi from POW, he leads the way to Africa and talks to founding fathers of the Black Panther movement.

They work in reuniting Africans and African Americans through the strongest bond that exists between the two today, hip hop. They all journey to revitalize their essence and purpose from the existing leaders of the Black Panther Pete  and Charlotte  O’neal, based in Arusha, Tanzania.  Keep an eye on this space for updates, coming soon.

The Neutral Sisters, Kyra and Bianca Noons

It is with a heavy heart that I write that Bianca Noons, the other half of that fabulous reggae group, The Neutral Sisters, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008.  She had been in a diabetes-induced coma for over a year.  She was 30 years old.   Kenyan Jewels would like to pass our condolences to the family.  Our prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Her sister, Kyra, has planned a concert that will be a tribute concert featuring reggae artist Kymani Marley, scheduled for Dec. 19 at Bar Rio, 6400 Richmond in Houston, Texas.  Rest In Peace, Bianca.  You made an impact that will never be forgotten.  For more information, visit www.neutralsisters.com.

Thank you, Sharon for sharing the information.

Bianca Noons in a Coma

Kyra Noons and Bianca Noons

I realize that this is old news to most people who keep up with the Neutral Sisters, but for those who aren’t in the know, Bianca Noons slipped into a diabetic coma in December 2007 and is apparently still in a coma. She suffers from juvenile diabetes. Her sister, Kyra, wrote a song called “Hold On” for her sister and performed it at a benefit to help raise awareness about Diabetes, and help raise money for Bianca’s bed (the cost is $33,000).

Club Riddim hosted a benefit on August 1 featuring Kyra Noons, Black Sheep, Major Riley, Blackstone, Super Neil, Tremendus, and Fatta Carey and Mikey Faith Crew.

Kenyan Jewels featured the Neutral Sisters earlier and showcased their tremendous talent. Our prayers are with the Noons family as they deal with this medical situtation. God bless you all.
