Kenyan Soccer Goes International

kenya football federation

For those of you who have been lamenting the ailing sport that is soccer in Kenya, you will be happy to hear that Kenya Football Federation has signed a deal with Supersport to show the Premiere League games live in countries across Africa. That should really get those soccer players riled up and ready to show off (they actually did and Africans were treated to some top notch soccer).

The deal is for 100 matches over the next 4 years. Not bad. Let’s see if this will revive the ailing sport. Read more about this deal here.

Curtis Osano, Reading, England

Curtis Osano, Reading FC

Curtis Osano plays for the Reading Football club and is on loan to Rushden. He has made 35 appearances in the league, and 3 appearances in the FA Cup. He is quite popular with the fans who keep voting him the player of the month in August 2007. To learn more about him, visit the website.

Patrick Oboya, Czech Republic

Patrick Oboya played for the AFC Leopards and then moved to Tusker where he was discovered by FK Siad Most, a team from the Czech Republic. He is an effective striker who is learning a great deal of technical skills with the team. He was also an effective scorer for the Kenyan team in the qualifiers against Ghana in 2008. Denis Oliech, Paris, France

I finally found a Kenyan in the European leagues (it has been quite a hunt). The leagues are littered with west African players, prompting somebody to do some idiotic study on why west Africans are ‘better’ players than east Africans. In protest, I am going to highlight the players that are influencing the game from Kenya!

Denis Oliech was making waves at the age of 19 when he played for Al-Arabi in Qatar in 2003. He now plays for AJ Auxerre, Ligue 1 (on loan from FC Nantes) in France and is still making a mark as a striker for the team. He signed a four year contract with them that started in 2006 and they seem really happy with him.
