Wanjiru Kamuyu in a Performance

A native of Kenya and an M.F.A. (dance choreography and performance) graduate of Temple University, Philadelphia (PA), Wanjiru Kamuyu, began her dance training in Kenya, East Africa.  She later studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, American Dance Festival, Philadelphia Dance Company a.k.a. Philadanco.  During her 7 year tenure with Urban Bush Woman (UBW)  Kamuyu continues to gain formal training in dialogue and deliberation practices.  As a certified Urban Bush Woman (UBW) Community Specialist she serves in the role of dialogue facilitator for numerous community engagement workshops and UBW’s Summer Institutes.  As a Teaching Artist with Lincoln Center Institute, NYC, Kamuyu applies dialogue and deliberation techniques and concepts in the classroom.  Kamuyu’s life mission is to bring the art of dance to communities worldwide spreading its beauty and power as a catalyst for social change; a tool to express community stories of challenge and celebration.
